Troubleshooting Guide

PROBLEM: Pedals turning but wheels are not.

REASON: The allen head set screw that attaches the cog (the part with the teeth that grip the chain) to the axle is loose and not keeping them connected.

FIX: Remove the chain cover. When you remove the chain guard, you can see the cog with the teeth that grip the chain. Looking from the rear of the trike, you will see an allen head set screw on the right side of the cog. If you turn the axle you can see a groove in it on the left side of the cog. This groove goes all the way across to where the allen head set screw is. This screw must be tightened into the groove in the axle to keep them turning together. Turn the wheels until you see the groove lined up with the screw and then use a 4mm allen wrench to tighten. Adding some loctite (you can get this at Ace Hardware or Home Depot) to the threads of the screw before inserting it will help to keep the screw from loosening.

PROBLEM: Handlebars won't tighten to steer front wheel.

REASON: Handlebar inserted backwards.

FIX: Check to see that the small indentation in the tube are facing toward the front of the trike to receive the knob that tightens the handlebars and keep the unit moving together.

PROBLEM: String is wrapping around cranks and stopping the pedals.

REASON: Pedal string is to keep pedals level and is not tied tight enough.

FIX: To tie string at proper tension, level pedals to horizontal with the ground (it does not matter whether the pedals are level with each other), then tie the string securely at one side of the pedals. It is recommended that an amount of string be left to allow future tightening of the string if it becomes stretched.

PROBLEM: Front wheel not turning freely.

REASON: Axle bolt too tight.

FIX: Loosen bolt using wrenches, take caution not to loosen too much. Keep as tight as possible with free movement of wheel.

PROBLEM: Brake is contacting wheel, keeping it from turning freely.

REASON: Brake cable not at appropriate tension.

FIX: Locate the brake cable adjustment cylinder (a hexagonal shaped cylinder approximately 1.5" long on the brake cable). Screw the cylinder to decrease the number of threads shown to loosen the brake. Unscrew the cylinder to show more threads on the screw to tighten the brake.
